On Earth Day Weekend, Canton's
Mechanical Energy Systems partnered with local school groups to raise funds for their programs at the Solar Car Wash Stop in downtown Rochester Hills at the 4th Earth Day Expo. Students washed cars with warm sun heated water, with all donations assisting school groups.
A three-panel solar hot water system (the size required to heat a small residential outdoor pool) fed by a standard cold water city hose pumped solar heated water into buckets of soapy earth friendly detergent, demonstrating how simple and efficient solar water heating systems are.
Mechanical Energy Systems is also doing their part to improve household comfort and maintain healthy life-style choices in these tough economic times by eliminating pool heating costs and removing tons of carbon emissions across Michigan. Here in Michigan, pools cost anywhere from $300 to $700 a month to heat and many households are opting out of heating the pool altogether, using the pool less and less. The sun will heat the same pool for a longer season, reliably, for 25-30 years with zero fossil fuel issues, for the same cost of a single gas heater that has only a four or five-year lifespan.
