The article accessed below provides an update on an earlier .iTownOnline BizBlog entry previously posted on this site, where we surmised what would happen after the inBev acquisition of Anheuser-Busch. It didn't require rocket science on our part, as inBev's initial steps after an acquisition are well-known, but these moves do signal that the emphasis for the acquisition was not the promise of future growth of the Bud brand in the US - it was what they felt they could do with the brand in overseas markets.
As an update to our previous prediction, Budweiser will lose its position as the #1 beer brand sooner rather than later, for two reasons. It will quickly shed its image as an iconic American beer brand, and second, in further cost-cutting the brand will not receive the same strong marketing support it has had in the past in the slow-growth US market.
