A much needed trail system, which will likely get a lot of use by Canton residents as a mountain-biking trail, has opened this summer, with a trailhead at Morton Taylor just north of Michigan Ave., with 1.4 miles of trails between the utility line corridor and Sheldon Rd. By late fall, the Lower Rouge River Recreational trail it will extend along the north side of Michigan Avenue to I-275, and by some time next summer, will also extend northward along the utility corridor to Flodin Park (at Morton Taylor Rd. and Saltz). Future development of the system will complete the trail stretching from Canton Center Rd. in the west 4 miles east to Hannan Road, enabling access to the paved biking trail system along I-275.
As we seek greener, healthier, safer and less-expensive forms of exercise and recreation, we applaud this forward-looking development in the Canton community.
